We believe that music is a gift to be shared with all people.

Community Music School (CMS) at Moody Bible Institute (MBI) is a private and group music lesson program that exists to provide excellent and affordable music instruction to people of all ages in the Chicago community.  CMS hires qualified MBI music majors and graduates who are interested in teaching private or group lessons as a ministry and vocation in order provide them with practical teaching experience before graduation.

At CMS we believe that music unites people from many different walks of life, bringing them together to create a community.  We believe that God created the arts to reflect His beauty, and that our pursuit of excellence as artists is a way to honor Him as we learn more about His glorious character.  We are passionate about sharing music with the people in our lives, not because of our own greatness, but because of the glimpses of God’s greatness manifested on the journey of artistic expression.

CMS currently offers lessons on the following instruments: (other instruments may be available upon request)

  • Piano
  • Guitar
  • Voice
  • Violin
  • Viola
  • Organ
  • Flute

CMS also offers group Early Childhood Music Classes (Musikgarten) for ages 0-5 with a caregiver, and a Children’s Choir for ages 6-11.

The Community Music School holds a recital at the end of each Fall and Spring semester to showcase student’s work.  The recitals are optional, but students are encouraged to participate.
