Why Should My Young Child Take a Music Class?

Plato once said that music “is a more potent instrument than any other for education.” Children are born with an aptitude for music, but that potential diminishes if it is not nurtured in the first nine years. In fact, the most important period is the first 2–3 years, according to Edwin Gordon, a world-renowned music educator, researcher, and author. Fostering the musical potential of young children will help them become more well rounded human beings.

Today’s music educators recommend the following music activities for preschoolers:

  • Singing simple songs
  • Rhythm and melodic games
  • Movement
  • Playing with instruments
  • Focused listening games

The Musikgarten curriculum that the Moody Community Music School uses for the Early Childhood Music Classes includes all of the above plus biblical truths, prayer, and Christian songs.

Music has been an integral part of worshiping God since Old Testament times. Music classes nurture young children to better express their love for Jesus. In each class, trained Moody students share the love of God through this curriculum. Join us as we strive to further the gospel using this exciting and fun music program.
